Claiming Benefits

Post by Unknown Professor » Sat Aug 16, 2014 12:14 am

Hi, i got a question. My friend met and married his wife when he was a student studying here in the UK in July 2012. His wife then was working as a senior compliance officer and as such he is dependent on her hence his spousal visa (new rule). Currently he has 2.5 years spousal visa subject to another 2.5 years renewal in June 2015 (60 months route). In Sept 2013, his wife said she does not want to work again and she wants to start signing on and claim benefits. He is skeptical about this because he does not know if this will have any effect on his spousal visa when he goes for renewal in JUNE 2015. She asked him if that could affect his future applications and my friend asked her to seek an advice from an immigration lawyer. Currently the guy working and it seem as if his wife is now dependent on him, cos she is not working. Will her not working affect his visa renewal because the home office already know that the guy was depending on her salary when the initial 2.5 years visa was granted but now that she is jobless what will happen? Will my friend be denied a renewal and sent home?? Furthermore, if she claims benefit on her name alone, will that affect him too?
Any useful advice will be appreciated
