Need to clarify a few concerns.

Post by zwmusic » Thu Jan 21, 2016 10:30 am

Hi, I have been looking through the forums in the hope of finding a clear answer to demystify the general anxiety created by the new threshold of £35,000, but I didn't find an updated thread about this:

I am settled in UK and want to bring my wife and 2 children to join me. At present the guidelines from the Home Office stands at:

£18,600 per year if you’re applying only for yourself
£22,400 per year for you and one child
£2,400 per year for each additional child

In my case (wife and 2 children) I must meet the financial requirement of £24,800.

I just need a few simple answers, does this new UK immigration rule in any way affect applications to join family living permanently in the UK? Or will it also be affected in the near future?

My annual income falls just bellow this figure, at present it is £23,600. In this case how much savings do I need to have in order to meet the financial requirement?

Many thanks for your kind help in answering to my questions.

I've calculated it as £22,000 savings. The first £16,000 of savings are disregarded.
Shortfall in annual earnings of £1200 x 5 year period = £6,000 + £16,000 = £22,000

Wait for confirmation from others that my calculation is correct as I'm concerned about whether the £1200 should be multiplied only by 2.5 covering the period of the initial visa.

The savings must be held in an accessible account for a minimum of 6 months.

Are you aware that the £35,000 threshold is for Tier 2 visa category only?

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Thank you Casa. I did come across about the new threshold being only for Tier 2 only now - elsewhere in this forum - but after all the upheaval following the announcement of this new measure I heard all sorts of stories and suggestions, and just want to put my mind at rest. The Home Office website doesn't really care to answer to your concerns and everything is very impersonal and matter of fact. People start inventing all sorts of apocalyptic scenarios and I even heard suggestions that this new threshold would comprise all immigration statuses. The general media only adds fuel to the fire and triggers even more shock waves of panic (instead of clarifying anything). It's already terrifying enough all the agonizing wait, being away from your dearest ones while trying to keep calm and making sure not to muck up anything in the whole process. In those circumstances even the slightest suggestion can haunt you and send chills down your spine.

By the way, thank you for the wonderful work you are doing here and God bless you.
