New test for British Citizenship

Post by luka » Mon Dec 20, 2004 11:55 am

There is now a curriculum coming in sometime next year, designed to teach the meaning of Britishness. Applicants for British citizenship will be tested on their knowledge of an array of subjects including human rights, equal opportunities, employment, Brussels institutions and how they work, how to complain about police conduct, etc. Applicants sit and pass an exam before being granted British citizenship.

An interesting development but still no definite news on when this will be introduced or exactly what the test will involve.

The comment must continue to be ... apply for naturalisation as soon as eligible and you might avoid this new requirement.

It is not. The best indication we have is that it will be introduced "in the summer" this year.
