I am kindly asking, I know the council check in services are no longer operational, however is there a way of checking if you are ready to apply for citizenship prior to sending your application. A friend of mine used to be on a student visa and applied for asylum just before her student visa expired. However she was given an appointment to claim asylum which came after her visa would have expired. She has been here more than 10 years, however it isn’t 10 years since she was granted asylum. She wants to know if she can apply now as she has had indefinite leave for more than a year now.

No there is no free service. Note also that the old council NCS service did not provide advice either, it was merely a document and submission checking service.
