How to book a citizenship ceremony with Camden Council

Post by chutney00 » Mon Jan 10, 2022 4:17 pm

I received my invitation letter on the 20th of December 2021.

I tried to book via Camden Council's website but the system says my application cannot be found.

I have called the Camden Registry Office approximately every other day for the past 20 days. Depending on the number, they either do not pick up at all or if they do, they confirm that they cannot find my application on the system (duh), there is nothing they can do to help and that someone will get back to me "tomorrow". Naturally no one has.

I have also visited them in person. They said pretty much the same thing. "We cant find your application, we wont book anything for you, keep trying online".

I am running out of time but not entirely sure what I can do in this situation. They are stonewalling, not responding to any messages or if I do get a hold of someone over the phone just telling me there is nothing they can do and that "someone will come back to you".

I find the situation perplexing. I apparently won't be able to get British citizenship despite Home Office deciding to award me with one simply because Camden Council doesn't feel like it.

Does anyone know of an alternative route to book a ceremony?
Does anyone know if Camden Council is legally obliged to offer the ceremony or is it really completely at their discretion as they seem to think?

Thanks for any comments.

Are you sure that the council selected for the citizenship ceremony is Camden Council? Did you receive the invitation letter from Camden Council or from the Home Office?

Did you nominate any other council for the ceremony when making the naturalisation application?

Also there have been a few cases where the naturalisation certificate was sent to a wrong council (often ones with similar names; I think one certificate for a person residing in Newham, London was accidentally sent to Newport, Wales, for instance).

Go through the Home Office documentation carefully to see which council was sent the naturalisation certificate.

Camden Council can't hold your naturalisation ceremony until they receive the certificate from the Home Office. If they haven't received the paperwork from the Home Office, they can of course refuse to hold the naturalisation ceremony.

Thank you for the response. As a matter of fact no, I am not.

The link in the invitation sends me to Camden website based on my postcode so I presume that is where they would send it but I suppose they might have sent it anywhere.

I'll check with Home Office.

Thanks again.
