Name variation(s) D.O.B

While I appreciate that there have been posts in the past re name variations, the ones I can find relate to surname/family names. I would like to explain my circumstances and see if there is anything else I need to do.

My maternal Grandmother (through whom I am seeking citizenship) is Kathleen Mary on her birth certificate. Her marriage certificate has her as Catherine Mary, her death certificate has her as Catherine (no middle name cited). On my Mum's birth certificate she is shown as Catherine Maria.

Just as an added extra, a number of years ago, my family in Ireland, produced a family tree and a history of the families. While I appreciate this is in no way an official document, my Nan is on that tree as Katherine. There is a copy of one document in that book where her name is spelt as Cathleen.

The FBR form under the Grandparent section asks for "Full forenames as on civil birth certificate" Then after DOB (I'll come to that in a bit) it asks for "Current forename (if different)" My Nan never changed her name and was always known as "Kit". If I submit these documents, do you think these slight variations in name differences, will cause any issues? My Nan was born in 1910, was it usual for certificates/documents then to have name variations depending on who was completing the form?

Re her D.O.B - Her birth certificate has her as 31st August 1910. On her death certificate my Uncle (who registered her death, and has now passed away) has put her D.O.B as 29th August 1910.

Before I submit my application, I am hoping to cover all anomalies/sticking points that I can see, to avoid any complications further down the line line.

You mention three forenames in your post - is that right?

Katherine and Catherine are both the same in translation from Irish as Caitríona. Kathleen translates from Caitlín.

Were the names anglicised from the Irish? If so that may explain some of the differences. It is common for names from certain language groups to be transliterated differently at different times. This is particularly common converting from a language with a wholly different alphabet/script into English but the same does apply from Irish to English.

That doesn’t answer your question but may help to explain.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. It certainly does help to explain the slight differences in the names. The Catherine/Katherine differences, are the easiest to explain. My main concern is the Kathleen on her birth certificate and Catherine on the death certificate, as well as the DOB difference.

I see that the DFA now has the live chat up and running. I think I will contact next week and get advice directly from them.
