If your wife is awarded New Sytle Jobseeker's Allowance, that will give her a Type 1 National Insurance Credit towards a UK state pension. Universal Credit only gives a Type 1 NI credit (and she can't have this why she is NRPF) and although a NI Credit is not the same as a NI contribution, this Type 1 credit from JSA might help her meet part of the requirements to claim New Style JSA again in future if she loses her job again.JB007 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 8:32 amIf you haven't signed an undertaking to keep your wife and she has contributed to the UK for 2 tax years (legally worked and paid Type 1 National Insurance) she can look at claiming New Style Jobseeker's Allowance. It's limited for 6 months and she will have to prove she is looking for work, but they won't take your earnings and joint capital into account as this is a contribution based benefit.

You claim UC as a couple but unlike the Working Tax Credit benefit, UC does not give extra benefit money for your NRPF partner. You have a maximum allowance which will be higher as you have a child. Any money you earn abouve that allowance is reduced at 62p in the pound. Any New Style Jobseeker's Allowance payment for your wife will be reduced from your UC claim pound for pound.
Correction to above type, Universal Credit only gives a type 3 National Inusrance credit, whereas New Style Jobseekers (for those who have contributed to the UK) gives a type 1 NI credit.
