Place of Birth in MN1 Form

Post by agarwalsaur » Tue Dec 02, 2014 9:04 am

Hello All,

I have applied for my daughter's British Registration under Section 1(3) using MN1 form. She is 3 months old now and was born in Lewisham, London.
I have already posted the application and only realised after posting the application that I might have mentioned the Place of Birth incorrectly.

1.12 Village or town or city of birth: I have mentioned LONDON because I thought that was the city of birth. In her birth certificate it says: District: Lewisham, Sub-District: Lewisham and administrative body: London Borough of Lewisham.

I am now worried as I might have put the place of birth incorrectly.

Has anyone been in a similar sitiuation, please help? Should I call HO or send them a letter?

It is not an issue mate dont worry about it. It should be approved without any issues. It does say "Village or Town or City ...."

I wrote the exact same thing around 2 years back with my son's MN1 although not by mistake but to keep it consistent with my son's other non-UK passport. I did ask some govt department before sending off the MN1 and they told me that it will be OK as the place is within london and they were correct. MN1 was approved without any issues.

I would suggest you to write a letter to Home Office explaining the mistake and get it corrected now. As place of birth will appear on naturalization certificate and passport and if you dont correct it now, there will be a mismatch between birth cert, naturalisation cert

Thanks Neo. Should I send this letter to the same address as I have sent the application?

The birth certificate does say "London borough of ....." so there is no question of mismatch IMHO.
