Does anyone have any information on this?

In recent times, I did not see any news about it in the media.

It appears that the HO intend to set up a design group in the Summer of
2009 to discuss how the requirements for voluntary community/charity
work (to reduce the qualifying time from the proposed extensions) could be implemented. Still has to be passed through Parliament.

The last news came out about this during February 2008.

Then it was mentioned that it will be discussed in parliament in November 2008 (this month).

But after that, there was no discussion about it anywhere.

Some newspapers then mentioned that it might become a law from 2009 or 2010.

But you never know the crooks - they can just bring out a new law tomorrow.

Hey guys,

Definately 2009. Normally laws take about 6-10 months to be passed. Needs to go through house of lords then the committee stage, etc.

They havent started debating in parliament yet. It could start 1st week of December.

As per below link, final bill is likely to be published in January 2009. If so, with all due amendments, debates at various governing bodies, I estimate it will be enforced by June 2009 (subjected to no major opposition on bill debate). Considering the analysis of consultation responses, I feel that final bill will not be having any mandatory requirement of community work or linking it to fast track citizenship.
