Passport certification document for citizenship application

Post by Corkyboy » Mon Jan 12, 2026 3:59 pm

Hello,

Sorry to bother you.

My wife recently got a certified copy of her passport done at a solicitors for her Citizenship application with : "I hearby certify that...." stamped and signed on it, but realised today that there's also this passport cert firm below.
Is that form still required to be filled in and signed by a solicitor?

Many thanks.

Didn't find anything about the "Passport Certification Form" on the guidelines below, so just making sure she needs it if the copy of her passport has been stamped and signed and dated by the solicitor ?

Guidelines, certifying a document ;

I speak from bitter experience when I say you 100% need to fill this in. I didn't, as I didn't see it anywhere in the instructions, but even though the EXACT words are on the solicitor's stamp, you still have to have them fill in the pdf. That 'mistake' set me back about 4 months, so you've done the right thing posting! Good luck!

Thanks alot.

How long did it take for them to get back to you with an approval notice, and then finally naturalization, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks again.

I don't mind at all. This forum has been so helpful for that!

Roughly:
Application submitted mid-Feb 2025
Additional information requested (turned out to be that cover sheet): end-May 2025
Application accepted: early October 2025
e-Vetting: approx one week later
Approval notice: approx 2 weeks after that.

Ultimately, I'll never know if that extra info request put me back by 4 months or not, but once the application was accepted, things moved pretty quickly. But I've heard of married couples submitting on the same day and being approved months apart, so there don't seem to be many patterns. My best advice is just accept she'll need to wait it out. The good news is the final stages come together very quickly, in my experience. Hope this helps.

I should add that the naturalisation part seems to be defined by what ceremony she gets invited to. I just missed a window as I was travelling for work, and intercepted the letter too late, so that's put me back again, but it's all approved pending the ceremony, fingers crossed. If you get your letter just before the ceremony, that part can be very quick as well, if that makes sense.

I also had a problem with that wretched form - I’m sure it delayed my application by 3+ months.

If you have submitted already, you may be able to add the document through the submission portal - I cannot be sure about that because I have never tried. However, they will get back to you and will not just reject your application, that is pretty certain.
