Extension language requirement question

Post by Mrscruff » Sun Jan 18, 2026 8:49 pm

Hi, my wife's visa is due for extension in April and I have a question about whether the language test we took for the original visa is still valid as it seems the information seems contradictory.

When we applied for the original visa in April 2023 (granted in June 2023) she took the A2 selt. This should be enough for extension and the qualification is still valid on the website of the provider. According to different websites , AI and even the immigration helpline when I called them this is valid. However, on the ,gov website it says the validity is 2 years from when the test was first taken , so I don't get how it can still be used.

Could anyone who has applied for extension with a test previously taken confirm it is still valid or should we take the test again?

There should be no need for another test under Paragraph 32D of Appendix FM-SE, as"an applicant under the partner or parent routes submits an English language test certificate or result and the Home Office has already accepted it as part of a successful previous application in any category".

However, the online application form just asks whether you have a test taken in the last 2 years or you're exempted, so I'm not sure how you're supposed to point out that you don't need to take a test again
