Query: National Insurance number

Post by Tier1Bengaluru » Tue Oct 06, 2009 7:00 am

Hi All

Kindly help me with the following on National Insurance number application.

1. Can a Tier 1 Dependent visa holder apply for National Insurance number?

2. If yes, is it mandatory that Tier 1 General visa holder has to accompany the Tier 1 Dependent while applying or while attending 'Evidence of identity' interview with Jobcentre Plus?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, since the dependant is allowed to work full time, they should get a National Insurance number.

I'm not 100% certain about this but there is no reason for it to be mandatory. As long as the dependant has all the necessary documentation, it should be ok. Would advise the dependant to carry the main applicants passport and a letter from the main applicant along just in case they ask for it.
Please do not send me any Private Messages as I do not check these.

Their is no point, main applicant go with the dependent.
I applied for me and my wife separately( even they don't ask for interview to both of us)
Some of my friend asked to come to office for interview, Their is nothing special going on this interview they just fill the form that's it.

OK, as long as no one thinks that without a NI number it is impossible to work!

That is, it is possible to start work, and then apply for NI number. After all, the NI number, by itself, has never given a right to work in the UK, and lack of NI number has never prevented work (but evidence of ability to work in the UK needs to be supplied).
