Switching Jobs on a Skilled Worker Visa: Impact on ILR Eligibility

Post by devex02 » Sun Dec 22, 2024 5:02 pm

Hi everyone,
I currently hold a 5-year Skilled Worker visa under the job title of Care Worker (Support Worker). After working on this visa for two years, I secured a new role with the NHS as a Healthcare Support Worker. When I inquired about visa sponsorship for the new position, I was informed that my current visa would need to be canceled. I'm a bit confused about what this means. If my current visa is canceled and I’m issued a new 3-year visa, would I still be able to combine it with the previous two years to qualify for ILR?
Thanks

You apply for a change of employer skilled worker visa and once approved, your current visa is cancelled by UKVI.

You cannot cancel your visa first. Only UKVI has that authority.

Thank you! Just to confirm, the two years I’ve already completed won’t be wasted, and I would still be eligible for ILR after spending an additional three years on the new visa with the new employer?
