I haven't any idea where you are, but visa posts seem to vary considerably in the extent to which they evaluate evidence that you are eligible for the visa category for which you've made an application. This is a secondary line of review, but it appears to be rather more of a formality in some countries (like mine, the US) than elsewhere (e.g. in South Asia, where people practically reapply for HSMP approval in that Intregra screening process). The processing time can be taken as a proxy for the level of scrutiny you can expect; while the UK consulate had indicated an official processing time for my application of five days, they in fact turned it around in less than 24 hours. I gather that mine is not the experience of those applying for entry clearance in non-OECD countries. AG

Even in my case EC took just 1 day.Bombay -India..

But lately i have found out from this FORUM that EC takes much longer , and they calculate the points again!!!

Now a days it is a routine practice for the British High Commissions in a number of countries to check the applications for HSMP eligibility and also to verify the same through a third party (In India they are following this practice since March 29, 2007).

YES, EC can be declined if an applicant fails to satisfy the caseworker at the high commision regarding - (1) meeting the HSMP criteria(threshold points) - (2) authenticity of the documents.

However, in a number of cases where the documents can not be verified due to non cooperation of the current employer, the high commission usually invites the applicant to an interview for explaining his position. But obviously, this has time implications - causes a lot of anxiety and frustation....

worst come to the worst ... could embassy here overide (refuse) to give visa regardless of approval letter?! Are thay authorised to do this?! I am well known to the embassy here - I was a student in uk and have visited UK for more than 10 times... so no "security" or "entry clearance" issues I mean....

why are they going through my already approved application again? so my question again is : is it their business anyway? can they change approval letter into refusal letter if you like?!

Yes, I would second push_hsmp's point - the more stringent entry clearance process in some countries amounts to reapplication for HSMP approval, and yes, they are allowed to do this. The independent monitor's report provided further validation of this process, esp. in visa posts where ECOs were overwhelmed by applications and were encountering supporting documents of dubious provenance.
