British Passport for daughter of EU citizen

Post by Jersey » Sat Mar 08, 2014 9:22 pm

Hi I'm an EU Citizen who just got PR a month ago . My daughter was born a year ago (before I had PR).

I want her to have UK passport, does it mean she first need to be registered as British Citizen, or she acquires it at birth?

If she needs to register as citizen first, what is the process and fees please?

Do you mean you just obtained PR status automatically one month ago as you have only then completed 5 years of treaty rights in the UK or that you have just received the PR Confirmation from the HO (following a EEA3 application) a month ago?

The key date is when you have completed the 5 years. Not when you have received the PR Confirmation. Child born in the UK after the completion of the 5 years is British from birth. Otherwise, you can register her as British when you compete the 5 years. See the FAQ (link below) for details. Scroll down for the children section.

Thanks Jambo.

I received the PR confirmation a month ago, I completed the 5 years of treaty rights 3 months ago. So according to what you say , I should register her as British, which apparently cost £673

Yep.

The application can be made anytime until the child is 18 (if you wish to postpone the cost).
