British passport query

Hi

I will be eligible for naturalisation in May 2014. However I would like to apply for naturalization for my 3 year old son as well along with me who has ILR and on Indian passport.
My question is after applying for naturalization, my kid with my wife may travel to India for 6 months for family reasons. Anyways I will be here in UK during that time, I would like to know after receiving British passport for my kid, can I take his passport along with me to India and apply for OCI from there in India? Am I actually allowed to carry his passport in his absence to India?
