Apply for british passport for a child

Post by hiralshah » Mon Mar 24, 2014 6:47 am

Hi,
My child was born on April'09 in UK and we have a permanent residency since feb 2010. since july 2010 we have been living in india due to child care problems and have visited uk once in 2012 for a month's time. now we are planning to apply for a british passport for my child who is 5 yrs old as we are travelling to UK this year. Is it possible to apply for his british passport if we are not residing in uk since last 4 years but now wil be settling in UK only for obvious health issues of my child?

Child is not automatically British. You need to register the child under section 1(3) on form MN1 before you can apply for a passport.

Children born in the UK are only automatically British and able to apply directly for a passport if they are born AFTER the parents have ILR.

Are you aware that you lose your ILR status if you are away from the UK for 2 years?

Hi CR001,

Regards to MN1 under s 1(3) child register as BC

i ve made postal application SET0(0) for ILR through Tier-1 on August/2013 and granted on 18 feb 2014, our daughter born 30Th jan 2014 during the application process,

if Would they take the date of successful application for Parent Status, my daughter is British by birth ???

but as on Approval date & BRP issued date, it will be MN1 s 1(3) minor

Thanks in advance
