One last EC Question

Post by RealMcCoy00 » Sat Jul 21, 2007 7:56 pm

Section 11 - Employment in the UK has a Yes/No question "Have you been issued a work permit?" I assume I put yes here for HSMP? I ask because the question seems to be concerning if you have a position already with a company in the UK and if they have issued you a permit?

Thanks

No, HSMP is technically not a work permit - it's a visa allowing permit-free employment.

I can't recall the entire application, but are you sure you're using the right form? I assume you're applying online. If that's a correct assumption, you should have chosen "permit free employment" as your visa type on the first screen and then HSMP is an option in the drop down menu under that.

I don't recall that I was asked the question you're seeing, so I'm not sure you're using the right form...but I myself started out incorrectly using the EC application for a work permit and had to start over when I realized that HSMP required a different form.

HSMP is permit free employment. There is no work permit number assigned to HSMP.

VAF1 form is slightly different from ONLINE EC.

In case of a SINGLE applicant with no dependents, there should be following sections in ONLINE EC application:

1. About you
2. Your Family
3. Where do you Live
4. Passport Information
5. Immigration History
6. About your visit
7. Employment & Finances
11. Employment in the UK

Amy,

Did you not get the given question in your EC application?
"Have you been issued a work permit?"
I choose Permit-free employment and HSMP from drop down menu and encountered the given question in section 11?

No, if I'm remembering correctly, when I started over and was using the correct online form, I was not asked about a work permit.

In fact, when I made my first attempt at applying, I got to question 11 and I said yes to the question. I was then asked to provide employer details and when I tried to ignore those fields, the system generated an error message that required information was missing...and that was when I realized that I must not be in the right place.

So, I cancelled out of that application and started over, choosing permit free employment and then HSMP...and I'm pretty sure that I was not asked about a work permit again. So I think RealMcCoy might be using the wrong form.

I selected permit free employment and HSMP at the first screen

I encountered question

Section 11 Question 68:

Have you been issued with a Work Permit?

The answer should be NO.

Even VAF1 form has the question in section 7 (7.3, 7.4.7.5 7.6)

(Work permit holder or Permit Free Employment)

You jogged my memory :) Yes, that's what I did too. The answer to "have you been issued a work permit?" is "no."

HSMP is not a work permit

Amy,

There is a declaration & signature section after section 11.

Date signed is already mentioned (given date)

Applicants's signature field is blank. On the leaving the given field blank, one cannot proceed ahead to payment section. How did you proceed ahead? Required Field? One cannot sign online.

I believe the same needs to be filled (SIGNED) in the hard copy printed after form submission.

There was a field to type your name, which I did. So, when they say "sign," they just mean that you type your name in. But you will need to actually sign it with ink after you print it.
