Emergency tax code

Post by baskey » Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:10 am

Hi friends,

Presently my employer told as this is my first job in the UK, i have been given emergency tax code. Can any one tell me how to get normal tax code?

I did call inland revenue, but they said it may take 6 weeks after getting first tax paid in.

Is it so? Could anyone clarify me.

Emergency Tax Code 'BR@ is usually given when you first get employed.

Ask your employer to give you his/her Tax number and phone Inland Revenue. They will be able to give you a proper code 471L or something like that...

eitherway you will get yopu tax back in subsquent pay packets ( a bit of a mini saving scheme!)
Where there is a will there is a way.

Hi checkmate,

Thanks for your immediate response. I have asked my employer but they said that only Inland revenue should send proper tax code and not they. But i am not getting proper answer from Inland revenue.

What should i do exactly?

Remember to check if your employer is deducting taxes from the first payments, you are allowed to get something like £ 7,000 a year without taxes, the year starts in april, so, your first salaries might be free of tax....just talk to the accounts people so they know....
