Will barely miss the 10 year requirement

Hi Everybody,

From what I understand, I can apply for ILR in the UK once I have been in the UK for 10 years. I completed my PhD in the UK last year and now I am currently a dependent on my wife's tier 4 visa. As of now, I have been in the UK for nearly 6 years. Once my wife is done with her PhD I will have been here for 8 years. If my wife applies for a PhD extension visa (which lasts for 1 year), this will bring my total to 9 years.

Is there any scope for applying for ILR if I have been in the UK for 9 years? We are quite worried because it is becoming very difficult to obtain tier 2 visa sponsors (and our lives are in the UK). If it helps at all, I am a commonwealth citizen (Canada).

Really any advice about this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Toooo early to ask this question.

Rules r changing every year so no one know what will happen after 3 or 4 years.
