How do I apply for a EU spouse permit for France?

Hi Everyone

I am newbie to this forum, but am desperately seeking advice or information on my rights as the spouse of a Eu citizen (England) wishing to move to and reside permanently in France.

We are currently in Canada. I hold a South African passport and my wife has dual nationality with England and Canada. We came here on the back of her Canadian citizenship and I am still waiting for my permanent residence permit for Canada. I am here on a long stay visitors visa while I am awaiting my PR in Canada.

We have since realized that Canada is not the country where we would like to settle down in, so we have decided to move to France instead!

According to the "Freedom of movement in the EU" directive: 2004/38/EC, I have the right as the spouse of an EU citizen, to move to and live anywhere I choose within the EU.

I would like to find out how I can exercise this right? and I am unable to find out from the French Consulate what kind of documentation I need to move to France with my British wife. I can also only get an appointment for a visa (not even sure which one I need) at the French Consulate on the 30th of August, and it takes 2-3 weeks to get the visa. We wanted to move to France in the beginning of September.

I read somewhere on this sit that as the spouse of a EU citizen, France cannot refuse me to enter their country even if I do not have the required visa, etc. Does this apply to me if the only connection I have to the EU is the fact that I am married to a Brit (which forms part of the EU)? I gather that I would need something called a EU family member permit??

I posted this question here because I am married to a British citizen. I am trying to establish whether I need to obtain immigration documentation such as an EEA permit because I am married to a UK national and the UK forms part of the EU, or whether I need to try obtain entry status directly into France by exercising my right to enter and live in the EU as the spouse of a EU citizen?

My ultimate goal is to enter and live with my British wife in France. Can you perhaps point me in the right direction?
