Is October a good time to go to UK and look for jobs?

I have a corproate finance, Investment Banking profile and planning to go to uk in Oct and look for jobs. Can someone assist if October is a good time to go and look for jobs in the Finance Industry?

Seasonal job hunts....I don't have much experience in looking for jobs, but the 'recruitment period' is generally for new graduates and would therefore start in earnest from Jan to Summertime (I mean graduate recruitment fairs and the like), with jobs starting once they get their results, normally during the Summer.

But for jobs...they advertise whenever. I suggest registering with recruitment websites like doctorjob to see, but I think you'll find a lot of jobs with rolling application deadlines.

Well I'm studying and not looking at working in the Banking sector anyway! I suppose Dec is slow due to all the holidays, so Oct and Nov is better in that sense. Have you looked at the company websites? I think you'll find a lot of interesting stuff there about applying for jobs.

Nov / Dec is the worst time to look for a job.. Christmas celebrations start well more than 2 months in advance.

The best time I found is Feb / March, when the companies do their budgeting.

thanks for your help. i agree with you on that. Can you throw some light on how much expenses a single guy will be incurring while finding jobs. i mean monthly living costs in london. I just wanna seee how much money do i heed to carry to UK to survive untill i get a job.

Depends on where you live - inner/outer London, zones, etc. Basically Zone 1 is central London and zone 6 is outside London going in to other counties that share borders with Greater London (Like Middlesex).

So, say you lived in zone 2 or 3, living on your own in a one bed flat (even then, price varies due to location...), rent is probably £800 per month or max, then bills and council tax, then transport to/from job interviews, I'd say make sure you have £1500 per month. Of course you might spend more/less than that.

Then again I don't rent, but prices are skyrocketing in London. If you share with others, then your rent would be about £350-500 a month, depending on location. What country are you from? Maybe try currency converters?

Living in london is a bit expensive, the rent would be as said between 350 - 500 pounds inclusive of all the bills, Besides that will be you food expense which if you cook wont be more than 50 pounds a month may be less than that. For job interviews take it as an average of 20 pounds in a week if you get an interview every week. So from my point of view I think you wont be spending more than 600 pounds a month.
Secondly if you try to live a little away from london that is in hertfordshire you can get a room for abt 300 pounds inclusive of all bills, there is a direct train to london which takes half an hour. Well it entirely depends upon you where you want to stay and how much money you want to spend.
