English proof

Post by keval99 » Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:08 pm

Hi,

I am planning to switch HSMP soon from work permit, I have one question about English proof.

I did IELTS in march, 2003 scoring minimum 6 in each section.
Can I use that letter.

If not

I have original letter ( Letter of Recommendation for my master)from my undergraduate professor stating following lines…

Letter:-
Date: 24th March, 2003
I am very pleased to know that my student Mr. Keval XXX is planning to pursue his graduate studies at your esteemed University. I have known him since 1998 and have seen him into a sincere and hardworking engineer.

During his course work in Electronic Engineering Department, I had opportunity to closely interact with him in three semesters that I have taught him.
…..
Semester III: Topic 1…
Semester IV: Topic 2..
Semester V: Topic 3…

He has schooled throughout in English medium. He is fluent in spoken and written English.

…………………

Yours truly,

…..

Please tell me is this letter enough for my English proof.

I passed out my undergraduate degree 6 yrs back, I know it is not possible to get any letter from my undergraduate college.

Please advise me..

Kind Regards,
Keval

Check this thread out for IELTS: http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=17590

2003 might be too far back; I think they want something no more than 3 years old?

I don't think your letter of acceptance at university would be enough. It is good additional information, but you need to show;
1. TOEFL (better than IELTS, I hear)
2. Letter from your universities that your courses were taught in English
3. Any other documents to prove English ability. Why can't you get a letter from your UG school?

I think with that, you should be ok.

Hi Sakura,

Thanks for the reply.

It is tough as I am living in UK, back home in India, I do n't think any one from family or friends will go to my undergraduate Univ. for the letter.

It is now 6 yrs now, even my professor would recognised by my name.

In my University we do n't have any programme administrator like in UK univeristy, only department.

No problem, i give up. HSMP is over

Can you not email the university registrar (failing that, the dean's office) and request a letter ? The signatory on that letter would not need to know you personally; he would merely have to be able to corroborate the terms of the letter (degree, conferral date, your name, and language of instruction).

Alternatively, you could resit the IELTS test.

Apologies, my above statement was incorrect. I meant to put IELTS is better than TOEFL, from what I saw in this thread http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewto ... oefl+ielts
But I see that there are paper-based and computer-based tests, so I cannot ascertain whether or not IELTS is better/best.
