Internships??

Post by fourfour2 » Tue Aug 07, 2007 5:32 pm

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has any info that would help me in my situation?
I'm 28 dont have a gegree but do have A levels, a diploma and nearly 9 years work experience in sports/recreation industry.
I am currently working as a coach in America which is seasonal and requires me to travel all over the states, which is hard as my girlfriend lives in NY. Obviuosly would love to live there one day but for now, id be happy with working there a year at a time preferably based in or near NY.
My only problem is not having a degree. I'm not too worried if the job isnt sportsrelated as I've done sales/marketing type roles in the past.
My main objective is to work for at least a year at a time and be near near my girlfriend. Anyone know of any companies that would consider me for internships or any other options that would be open to me?

Would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance,-)

I think the best way to secure a good job would be to have at least an associate's degree. That would be very good if you want to work in sports, I think.
But, other than that I don't know how to help someone without a degree...funny that you're already in the US too! Are you there as a summer camp coach?

Hi, I'm doing camps at the moment and then i work the spring and fall with clubs for 10 weeks at a time. I'll carry on with it if i have to and hope something more permanent comes of it. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

It depends on what you mean by internships...if it is an office job, you're in bad luck because getting a visa is very hard without relevant qualifications and experience.

If you want to continue working in sports - well, that's different, I think. You should look at sports clubs and stuff, I guess. Try Bunac - at least contact them and see what they say.

What visa do you currently have, and for how long is it valid?

I have a H2B and its valid till November. Guess i'll just have to roll with it and just network and see what happens.
