It's not mandatory to have a business plan, but it is very important to have a business plan. It shows that you have done your homework and you are a genuine entrepreneur and you intend to invest in the UK.

Yes business plan is a living document. I beleive getting through this visa hurdle is a blessing in disguise. You get to think about your business properly and do things which one would not ordinarily do. Helps you think like an entrepreneur.

It doesn't matter you have started your business or planning to start, a business plan is a must. UK is no longer interested in your 200k money, they have a long queue of people ready to invest in the UK. So its your job to prove them that you're a genuine entrepreneur and you intend to invest in the UK.
