Post by M. Syed » Wed Aug 13, 2014 10:05 pm

My mother who is here with me has some medical issues but carried her medicine with her to UK. But unfortunately she is not well & we might need to go to hospital.

Could someone please HELP how can i take to hospital ? Should I take her straight in A & E in any hospital or somewhere else ?

Your help is much appreciated.

have you got her health insurance? Take her to A & E.if no insurance you have to pay full amount end of treatment if you don't she wont be allowed to enter in UK upon her next visit. please keep all receipt with you, when you going to receive her on airport ON her next visit.you have to show to ECO on airport, as NHS will put your mum details on system.

Sorry to say it is not free for visitor, i have been through all this nothing is free.they did not let my mum enter in uk keep her on airport and told me bring proof that you paid due amount to NHS in full when went there to receive her, so i had to ask my uncle to bring for me from my home, good thing i kept it safe. NHS reported them that i have not paid.it was worst experience of my Life.

Pretty sure emergency treatment is free, i.e. road accident (pay for ambulance tho) or fall in street, that sort of thing. Illness though is different, that should be covered by Heath Insurance on VV, is it not a prerequisite? If not it should be.

Indeed.

The way it works is that if you're in A&E ... you're free of charge. The moment you're moved to a ward - even for one night - that's chargeable.

Although plans are afoot!

For example - here below is the plan to bring in charges for A&E in December last year.

And indeed - here's the analysis of the immigration bill that brought in the legal rights for the government to charge for A&E - but it hasn't been implemented yet:

Again, emergency medical treatment is currently free.
