maternity pay, any benefits elig?

Post by soushinnokoe » Mon Sep 08, 2014 5:12 pm

Hi all.

I am a british citizen. My husband is on limited leave to remain until 2016, then we apply for 2nd part etc in 2016.

I am currently on maternity leave. Which means I am on statutory maternity pay of £136 a week. My husband works but doesn't take a lot of money a month (£800-900 a month after tax etc).

Is there any benefits I can claim without affecting his visa application in 2years?

We are not entitled to working tax as this year his salary, plus my £6000 from 2 months pay and until april of maternity pay goes to £18,500. And the cut off for a couple with one child is £15,000something.

We recieve child tax credit at the moment. And have just sent away for child benefit claim. Is there anything I can claim that won't affect his application, or anything I can apply for that he is not counted? Very tricky stuff with one person on limited leave, and no information on benefit calculators etc if one person is subject to immigration control.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Have you applied for child/working tax credits?

Did you apply for a sure start maternity grant?

Hi Amber, thanks for your reply :-)

We get child tax at the moment, and I have just sent away claim form for child benefit.

The sure start maternity grant would be so helpful but we don't get any benefits they state to apply :(

I just thought like people talk about housing benefit etc and I don't understand as if one person is working, and I'm on maternity/low income, how a lot of people on here get housing benefit? And work? I am on low income and entitled to anything I need, however don't know where I stand as my husband takes around £800 a month in his job, I only take £500 a month in maternity pay (138 per week) making 1200 per month, of this 800 is bills

Any more info or suggestions would be so welcome x

If you get Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element, then you are/were entitled to the Sure Start Maternity grant.
