3 year spouse/ ILR for one year rule

Post by travelerzee » Fri Sep 12, 2014 3:16 pm

hi,

I have been living in the UK for 4 years and I am married to a BC (he was born here). we have been married for just over 2 years. I will be getting ILR next month.

Am I correct in assuming that I can apply immediately for naturalisation, without having to hold ILR for one year?

Yes you can as long as you meet all the standard requirements.

ILR letter will be sufficient. If you're applying through the NCS they will confirm that they don't need to see the BRP

I am in the boat with travelerzee being married to a british citizen. I will apply for ILR next month. I thought that I need to be on ILR for 12 months before I apply for B.C. But you are saying we can apply for bc immediately after ILR granted. I had a work permit before I was granted my spouse visa. So those time will be added to 3 year qualifying period??

I would be grateful if you clearified it.

Yes you can apply. All legal time in the UK qualifies.
