On Work permit while awaiting out-of-country HSMP approval?

I understand that I am permitted to apply for HSMP while in country and on a Work Permit. But what if I start the HSMP application process from out of the UK and then enter the UK under a work permit while waiting for approval of HSMP?

Do you see a problem with the following scenario?

1. HSMP is completed and sent to UK from my home country

2.While waiting for HSMP to be approved while I remain in home country, I arrange for a job in UK; employer secures Work Permit.

3. I enter UK and start job under Work Permit.

4. HSMP is approved (approval letter is mailed to home country?)

5. With HSMP approval letter in hand, I apply for Further Leave to Remain.

Would the fact that the HSMP application was initiated in home country be a problem? Is it a problem for me to get a Work Permit while HSMP application is awaiting approval??

I don't see any problems with the HSMP or the FLR, once you have been granted the HSMP then the FLR should not be a problem and also, you are allowed to switch from WP to HSMP.
A different story would be from student to HSMP then you would have problems, but WP to HSMP is allowed and the fact that you started from your home country should not be a problem. An additional option for you is ask your employer to give you a job offer, that would speed up the process of your HSMP and could replace the need of the WP and the cost to the employer....
I saw a posting yesterday regarding home office saying that you can not have 2 applications at the same time....that part i'm not sure and maybe someone with more information could provide you with some feedback......

Try-one is right. You should be able to apply for FLR and switch from work permit. Also, you should inform the HO once you are in the U.K and give them your new UK address. That will make it easier for both you and the HO.

Regarding two different applications with the HO, again in this scenario, I dont think its an issue either. The HSMP application is submitted by you, while the work permit is obtained by your prospective employer and not you.

It is ok to have WP application and HSMP. My HSMP got delayed when they asked for additional info. So my employer went ahead and started a WP application for me, just so there wouldn't be any more delays in case I get refusal. They stopped that process when I got HSMP approval.

I also thought of just getting the WP (I could have started work 1month+ earlier!) and just switching later on. If your employer can't wait, I suggest just going with the WP for now because it is more straightforward. And just submit your new address to the HSMP team when you get to the UK.
