Hi, I have just found out that finally I can apply for UK Citizenship via my mother. I was born in the USA in 1970, my mother is from England and had moved there in the 60's with my grandparents. we moved back to the UK in 1972, I was 2 years old. I have lived here ever since, raised, educated and worked here my whole life.
I looked into getting UK citizenship some years ago and it seemed the only way was via naturalisation and I did not have the money to deal with the application at the time. I now see I can apply via my mother which is good news, although It still amazes me that you can't get automatic nationality as I would if my father was English.
Anyway, to the point:
What documentation do I need to provide? The form says my passport/birth certificate and my mothers passport/birth certificate. Although I can get a copy of her birth certificate from the registry office, she sadly passed away from cancer and I won't have access to her passport. Would any other documents suffice? I could get a copy of her death certificate I would imagine.
Appreciate any advice etc.. thanks
