British Citizenship for Children with EEA Passports

Post by blueavatar » Mon Oct 20, 2014 11:47 pm

Hi,
i am new to this forum and need some advise as its all so confusing.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to respond

Right

I came to the UK in 2002 so thats 12 yrs in which i worked continouesly excercising treaty rights.

I am a German National with 2 Kids (born in UK) 2003 and 2008 both got german passports.

There dad and i are getting divorced (dad is from Mali/West africa). got married in 2004/ after the 1st born.

As we dont have any intentions of living in Germany i wanna sort out their citizenship while they are still young.

Now are they automatically british citizens or not....do i have to pay the fee or not

from what i read it seems like the youngest might be but i am just not sure on what to do.

ontop of that my ex and i arent really talking these days so unsure of how much i would need his involvement in this.
Could i apply without him?
afterall the children currently have my citizenship not his malian one.

at the moment i would like to focus on the kids citizenship only as i understand that applying for mine involves alot more (life in UK + english language test) which i really dont have the time for right now.

any advise appreaciated

Thanks

Correct.

Youngest child is British. Elder child entitled to register.

You can apply without the other parent involvement.
5 P60s + your passport + birth certificate for each child would allow you to apply directly for a passport for the youngest child and register the elder child as British using form MN1 (there is a fee for that).
Check the FAQ before posting!
Citizenship (adults, children, passport)
EEA (EEA FP, RC, PR, Surinder Singh)
