Clerical error

Post by andnever » Mon Nov 03, 2014 4:12 pm

Hello.

I applied for a YMS back in July and received it in September. I just moved to London 3 days ago.

Until I called the National Insurance line, and had to read out the "valid from" and "valid to" dates, I never realized that instead of making it valid from Oct 2014 to Oct 2016, they made it valid from Oct 2015 to Oct 2017. I checked back my application on the visa4uk website and I did fill out everything properly.

My agency was surprised that I even got through immigration with that visa and that no one had noticed the error so far. I tried to call Home Office and various offices, but I was always redirected to the their website or other dead phone numbers. This is getting rather expensive. What can I do to fix this while in the country? (I'm from Canada).

Thanks in advance for your help
Iz

ECB19.2 Action by referred casework unit (RCU)
Members of the public who are in the UK can contact referred casework unit (RCU) with their request to have their visa amended by mail at the following postal address:

Referred Casework Unit – EC error amendment centre
15th floor Apollo House,
36 Wellesley Road
Croydon
CR9 3RR

Members of the public should provide RCU with the following documentation:
applicant’s covering letter containing their request to have their visa amended
applicant’s valid passport or travel document
applicant’s two recent passport sized photographs
any other relevant documentation
When it is necessary, RCU will contact the relevant overseas visa section to confirm that an error has been made.

When the error has been confirmed and RCU has received all the required documents, RCU will amend the error free of charge.

Hey Lz

I'm going through the exact same thing at the moment. I'm on the tier 5 youth mobility visa from Australia and they made a mistake with the dates on my stamp when I applied for it before I got here.

I sent my passport off to be corrected about 6 weeks ago and I still haven't heard a thing. It's really stressing me out because obviously I can't leave the UK and the HR department at my work are treating me like an illegal immigrant.

You're not the only one this has happened to and let me know how you get on!

Cheers
Jane

It's been two weeks for me. I called today to get an answer and they said to fax a number.

Six weeks is a long time. I hope you got everything back by now.

Nah its been over 2 months now.. Still haven't heard anything.
Would you be able to tell me what that fax number is?
I'm meant to be travelling over christmas and I don't even know if I'll have my passport then!

How are you getting on?

RCU have a lack of understanding phrases such as providing a quality service, managing cases appropriately, keeping you informed, being accountable and seem to enjoy the misery they create.
Complain to your MP becasuse without that level of pressure you will not get a result.
Also if you are unable to work because of the error insist on geeting your full two years from the date they amend the error. They will tell you they cant do that - yes they can. The error in these types of cases is down to UKVI and it is reasonable for such amendment to be made.
Make sure in your MP complaint to bring up that point.

Definitely, as Military Police would be unlikely to help.

Just a note that I received my passport today with a new visa today. They sent back all the photos I sent in and just used the one that was used in my previous "UK Entry Clearance". This was issued in Sheffield so I guess that's why it took so long.

I sent it in on November 5th, and got it on December 18th so it took 6 weeks for me to get it back.

I did contact my MP on Dec 11th but I've no idea if that had any effect.

Best of luck to anyone else.

Did they give you two years from todays date?

Nope. I got it with it with the previous date it was supposed to expire on.
Is there a way that I could argue my way into staying an extra two months saying that the YMS is only good for two years but started two months late? Or is that just a surefire way of getting banned from the UK?
