For OCI and Indian Passport surrender, see link beloweverfor wrote:I have applied for naturalization and waiting for approval. Recently i have been hit with family disaster, need go back the india.
Need to know approximate timeline to get the OCI
- for ceremony 3 to 4 weeks after approval depends on ceremony availability at your council or whether you go for a private ceremony.
- for British passport --- Timeline? It can take a couple of weeks up to 2 months
- Surrendering the Indian passport -- Timeline ?? Can it be applied parallel processed with British passport?
- After receiving the British passport, OCI timeline??
Appreciate your advise pls
Can be up to 90 days, but usually is within 5 weeks from most reports on here.everfor wrote:I have applied for naturalization and waiting for approval. Recently i have been hit with family disaster, need go back the india.

Can be up to 6 months, but I don't think anybody on here ever reported it taking longer than 3 months, and most seem to be withing about a month.everfor wrote:- for British passport --- Timeline?
Hard to tell as this involves Indian bureaucracy. Probably less than 6 months. I'm sure I've read of people who have had the whole thing done in 2 weeks.everfor wrote:- Surrendering the Indian passport -- Timeline ??
I don't think so. They require a photocopy of your foreign passport to be sent in along with the surrender application.everfor wrote:Can it be applied parallel processed with British passport?
Less than 6 months. Wish I could give a better answer. Maybe somebody else can chime in (I think there is a timeline thread?). Took about 5 months for my daughter, but it might be different for adults.everfor wrote:After receiving the British passport, OCI timeline??
Yes i am in india now. Today i have done the mail redirection request to royal mail, redirecting to fr. it will take 5 working days to activate.CR001 wrote:Once you receive the approval letter, you have 2/3 weeks to BOOK your ceremony. You have to attend the ceremony WITHIN 3 months from date of approval.
If you don't book and attend in the required time frame (no contact from you for example), you will have to apply again when you meet the requirements and pay a fee again.
Is no one checking your mail for you? When did you submit your application??
You have just posted 2 threads saying different things. Please say whether you are in India or if you still have to leave, I have merged them for ease.
Did you applied through NCS? I suggest talk to relevent council and keep checking with them every week if they have received your certificate, after 2 months of your application date. Also keep checking the time line for others who have applied around your time line.everfor wrote:I am waiting for naturalization approval , but due to family issue currently i am in india and not returning to UK for another 2 to 3 months. Even not sure whether approval letter in my post box now. What happens if i am not going pick up the approval letter for another 2 to 3 months? Will it be cancelled my naturalization approval? How longs it's valid for?
What's max time for postponing the Ceremony date?
Is there anyway, can i check the approval status through phone? Phone number please?
Appreciate your reply, please advise on my situation..
Yes i appiled through ncs bracknell in sep 2014 and i am seeing relevant time approval in sep timeline thread. At that time, they mention it's only forwarding centre and ceremony will done in surrey kingston council.dks100 wrote:Did you applied through NCS? It is very unlikely that they will give you an update on your application if you applied less than 6 months ago.Is there anyway, can i check the approval status through phone?
