Hi GreenApple!

Have you got any arrangement with the Gardas in respect of the protest and the marching up to the Dail? Before bringing people I would need to know the legal status of the event.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Admin, and anyone else not familiar with the Irish system, 'Garda' are the local 'guards' or police. 'Dail' is the Irish Parliament. The issues that will be protested against are the issual of 'deportation letters' to Non-E.U citizens who had married E.U citizens in Ireland just because they could not prove legal residence in another E.U State, and denial of residency permits to people who are here on spouse visas for not having lived in another E.U state before arriving here.

Hi archigabe,

I would like to correct you in some areas:

1) it was agreed with GreenApple that we join the forces and the reason for the protest would be not only the current issues with Non-EU spouses but also the current manipulations by DoJ/GNIB with processing times for LTR (Long Term Residency) and Citizenship where people despite legally working in this country on the grounds of workpermit for 6-8 years still denied either permanent residency or citizenship (which should be given after 5 years) and the right to work freely anywhere in this country, keeping such people in slavery at the will of their current employers for additional few years.

2) As I'w wiilling to bring people affected by both of the issues mentioned above, I would like to know the status of arrangement with the Gardas. Based on my past marching experience in this country, the organiser should notify in writing the Gardas about the protest. Should you plan marching on the streets then you would require an additional permit as the Gardas would have to stop the traffic on the streets for the period of marching. It is not difficult to obtain, but in order to avoid any future misunderstanding with the Gardas on the streets, it has to be done.
I hope that everything would be sorted out quickly and we would be able to march next Friday up to the Dail.

.

Thanks for the additional information.

If folks will use this board to coordinate protest actions, let us please keep in mind:

1) they will be peaceful and legal actions

2) they will be peaceful and legal actions

3) they will be peaceful and legal actions

As a courtesy to all members, and as a courtesy to the company that hosts this forum, please:

In the first post of the topic, clearly explain what you are doing and why.

Making it a sticky or an announcement is fair game, in my opinion.

But.

1) After the event is finished, please clean up after yourselves and remember to unsticky within a 'reasonable' time period. A day or three would be nice, unless there is some critical discussion that reqiures it.

2) By allowing this activity, I must also insist that it be applied as a policy across the board. No favoritism for "pet projects."

Coordinating protest or political actions by topics on this board is a right AND a responsibility of all members. Topics that get "out of control" will be subject to locking and deletion.

Thank you,

the Admin

Hi GreenApple,

I agree, but I would need from you answers to the following questions:

1) Could you please confirm that you had managed to obtain permission from the Gardas for this event?

2) I would appreciate if you add the following words to the subject "and the other critical immigration-related issues" so it would give legitimacy for our side of the protest too

3) Could you please provide me with your contact details, as I would need them for coordination of the event with you

Thanks in advance.

I would proposition that €100 GNIB Card fee also be on the agenda. This is basically an immigrant tax!

Completely agree on waiving the 100 euro GNIB fee, as it was supposed to improve the service rather than increasing backlogs with LTR & Citizenship processing tenfold.

Can anyone tell me when and where to show up on Friday?

And why are we protesting the GNIB? The Dept of Justice made up the rule. Gardai at GNIB have little say in the matter.

Hi All,

It seems that we've lost contact with GreenApple just 2 days prior to the protest. Does anyone know his alternative (apart from PM) contact details?

Thanks in advance.

Protest

Post by magda » Wed Sep 05, 2007 5:25 pm

hi everybody,
Me and my husband are also victims of EU1 and now they issued a deportation letter. We would like to join the protest its enough. We have to do something we cant let them forget we have to remind them all the time about this , they have to show us on TV so that the whole Europe will see what those dearly beloved here are doing to US INNOCENT PEOPLe. I had enough we cant let them forget. I want to join this protest can someone sent details where and when. This is just clear beloved and something has to be done!!!!!!!!!

Form a Party

Post by sovtek » Thu Sep 06, 2007 8:46 am

No offense to anyone but this protest looks to be a bit of a wash. It's not effectively organized.
I think interested parties should actually meet regularly before planning such an event. It's kinda hard to do it all over the interweb.
I'd suggest possibly forming a political party. Then communicate with other parties that have similar interest (SWP, Sinn Fein...etc etc). They have this type of thing well sorted already and "we" would be able to benefit from their expertise.

I personally think (No offence to anyone) that this Idea was right.

What my sugession will be to market this thing as a "Solidarity March" and not a "protest"

;) it will be politically correct plus u have a wider audience that can participate in it. NGOs, Friends and etc etc people from all walks of life.

I would like Organizers to designate different people to handle different aspects of organizing this.and Make sure when you do something its planned for perfection and you have the people who can deal with any changing senarios.

Also this solidarity march should be well advertised in Internet cafes, call shops & at shops selling foreign food etc etc to get some momentum behind it.

Thats my opinion
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
