Family Visitor Visa Extension within UK

Post by chandan.maximus » Wed Dec 03, 2014 7:10 pm

Hello Friends,

My mother and sister are currently in UK on a family visitor visa.

They were granted 6 months visa on 7th July 2014 and their current visa expires on 8th January, 2015.

I am keen to know if there is any way to retain them in UK through any catagory without going back to our hoe country (India).

I am now a british citizen and my wife is on Tier 1 visa on her own.

Pls. help at the earliest.

Regards,
Chandan

Unlikely they will be able to extend their visitor visa if they have already been in UK for 6 months at time of expiry.

https://www.gov.uk/family-visit-visa/extend-your-visa

And it is not possible to switch to ANY other category from a visitor visa.

Are you hoping that they can settle in the UK and not return to India at all?

Thanks for the response Char. Oh no. i am keen to extend their visa for 2 months as its my son's first birthday coming in a month :( Else the only option is we have to go back to india for celebration!

Are there any options to apply for 'adult dependent relatives' for my mum (61 years old) and also for my sister (35 years old) but she is mentally retarded.

What date did they arrive in the UK on their visitor visas?

Virtually impossible, only 2 to 4 approvals that we have heard of since July 2012 when the rules changed. Caseworker instructions below :

They came 1 month after the visa was approved i.e. on 9th August, 2014.

As they were already issued with a 6 month visa, I doubt that they will be successful in getting an extension and it is a lot of money to pay try extend.

Unfortunately a birthday party wouldn't be considered as extreme compassionate circumstances, which is the criteria for an extension.
