Name change after Naturalisation

Post by neo.kap » Tue Dec 02, 2014 7:42 pm

Hi,

I recenly got naturalisaton approval. Now I am plannning to drop 'KUMAR' from my name by deedpoll before applying British Passport.
My name in current passport, Lic, Naturalisation Certi etc is XXXXKUMAR. I also used to use my name as XXXX without KUMAR. so, some of the docs are with XXXX name.

1. Older kid's birth certificate has father name as XXXX
2. Younger kid's birth certifcate has father name as XXXXKUMAR

As birth certificates are historical records, father name in it cant be changed/updated and stay as it is.

If I change my name to XXXX do you think there may be an issue in future as one birth certificte has father name XXXX and other has XXXXKUMAR?

When you do something with kids as dependents you will have to submit birth certificate most of the time, hence I am asking this question.

Secondly, If I change my name to XXXX, should I use XXXX father name in my kids passport application?

You will need to submit the deed poll to show your change of name, for kids passport applications too just to be safe.

I have learnt from this forum that you need deed poll to change your name or part of your name. If you register it then you can use it as official document to change your name on British passport, DL, HMRC, Bank etc. Same applies when you want to change your name on child's passport/birth certificate.

However, I have received conflicting advice when it comes to applying OCI at HCI.

Hope this helps.

Thanks CR001 and rajesh for your valuable inputs.

I understand that I need a deedpoll for name change and need to present as an evidence wherever and whenever I will be asked for name discrepancy in documents.

My main concern is my kids birth certificates. One will have my new name and other will have old name. Older one has India birth cert which will have matching father name with my new name as I used my name without KUMAR. Elder one has UK birth cert and cant be amended hence it will have my old name XXXXKUMAR.

Will this be an issue in future having kids birth cert one with older name and one with new name?
