Marriage & Spouse Visa Advice Needed

Post by mfong77 » Mon Sep 10, 2007 6:21 am

Hello there,

I'd appreciate advice and guidance from all of you out there about the next relevant steps I should take on my Visa application...

Situation:
I'm an educated Malaysian and after several years of long distance relationship with my (then boyfriend) who's a British, we've finally tied the knot. We registered our marriage in Malaysia. He is still in Malaysia with me at the moment but will soon return to England due to work commitments. We're planning to apply for a spouse visa with our Malaysian marriage cert.

Questions:
1. We're wondering if we can now proceed with the visa application with the marriage cert (and other necessary supporting docs)? Will our marriage/marriage cert be recognised as he is still considered a bachelor in England since our marriage is formally registered in Malaysia?
2. Or when my husband returns to England, he must re-register his marriage in UK first? If so, may I know what is the procedure?

Please do advise. Truly appreciate some feedback... Thank you!

.

Moved from General UK to Family Visa (UK) section.

I am not certain, but I THINK that the Malaysian marriage, so long as it was all done properly & registered with civil authorities, is held as valid. Your husband is not considered a bachelor in the UK at this time.

Hopefully another member can step up and provide specific information regarding hoe the UK views the validity of a Malaysian wedding.

It SEEMS you will apply via the normal spouse visa route. Just ensure you have acceptable, official documentation of your marriage.

If your marriage is formally recognised in Malaysia no need to re-register it here in UK. Just apply with appropriate documents.
