Help applying for naturalisation

Post by babyblue » Wed Jan 07, 2015 6:50 pm

Hi all,

I am planning to apply for naturalisation next month. I am not sure whether to apply using the NCS service from the local council or just post my application personally with the relevant documents.

Could members who have used the NCS service please shed some light on what exactly the NCS do apart from certify your documents e.g. Do they ask you questions about your application? Do they check whether you have filled in the application properly?

Thanks :D

They check that your application is valid i.e filled properly and have all the required documents. Its a good service to have.

Thanks.

Do they fill in the form for you as well or do you have to go there with the form filled in?

NCS do not fill anything out for you, and often refuse to process applications that are any bit less than 100% straightforward. they are trained on a very primitive level and are mean to people whose cases they simply don't understand

do not forget you can also use a regulated immigration advisor, we can fill out applications, make sure everything is in order, address any difficult points and certify copies as well!

usually it is more pricey than NCS but I have a special on all nationality services in my practice this month, so it's practically almost free! )) better than NCS.

I can't really advertise here but my website is in my user profile

Extremely pleasant experience for me using NCS. In my case I had forgotten my postcode at one place, she pointed that and asked me to fill that. Lovely atmosphere and nice outcome, within two months I had a British Passport.

Now what "unnecessary things" did I do before going to NCS?
I understood my own case clearly, had a cover letter explaining my immigration history and ILR BRP details. Also I had an excel printout of all holidays, passports numbers and number of days, with total underneath. Lady was visibly pleased I had my application neat and covered everything therein.

If you do these and understand and briefly explain everything on covering letter, every case becomes a "straightforward" case. :)

I had also taken photocopies of my ILR BRP and all previous Passports, but this is not going to be accepted as they will copy and attest your documents themselves. Make sure you get check and get everything back, and have a Royal Mail tracking number from them.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies,

Is the application process any quicker if you apply through NCS?

Fairly quicker for me, used NCS and got approved in less than two months, but not a guarantee since NCS's main purpose is to retain originals with you.

IMHO, using NCS is a waste of money unless you're intending to use original documents after applying.
Naturalisation timeline: EEU PR
Application date: 17-03-2015
Fee deducted : 24-03-2015
Acknowledgment email : 25-03-2015
Approval date : 02-04-2015

On this forum, it seems that majority of the people use the NCS service. I don't intend to travel after the application, so if there is no real advantage (i.e. processing speed) of applying using NCS then I might save the money and apply personally.

Out of curiosity, does anyone use a solicitor or an agent to apply for naturalisation?

I don't see anyone using a solictor/agent as compared to other applications e.g. ILR.

There is no benefit in terms of processing speed by using NCS. The only advantage you get is to keep your originals with you as opposed to leave them to the mercy of Royal Mail and not knowing where they are for months - whether you have to travel or not is a secondary issue for me at least, it is the surety to know that I have my degrees and passports and marriage certificate etc with me. This advantage was real enough for me to part with fifty odd pounds and use NCS 8)

Naturalizations applications tend to be a lot simpler than other visa apps and don't need as many documents either which might be why people normally don't bother with solicitors.

i will suggest you to call HMRC to ask them give you letter "That you pay tax and national insurance "
also bank statement will show you have enough money in your account.
