OCI for new born baby

Post by nm » Fri Jan 23, 2015 6:16 pm

Hi,

I am planning to apply OCI for my kid, gone through the OCI page of CGI Birmingham though I couldn't get a clear information on what supporting documents required and dont want any suprise of asking for any new documents in the counter.

Father: Naturalized British Citizen with OCI (About to receive the OCI card)
Mother: ILR holder

Baby born after my British Citizenship , I am about to carry the below documents

1) Completed On-line application form - Part A and Part B
2) Original Birth Certificate - New born
3) Copy of British Passport - New born
4) Copy of British passport - Father
5) Two Color passport pictures as per OCI photo guidelines

Can someone advise if i missed anything ? Also, do i need to carry the marriage certificate and my wife passport ?

Appreciated your helps.

you haven't included documents in support of child's Indian origin proof

so include - your indian passport surrender certificate (as you haven't received OCI) OR OCI card (if you receive it before child's OCI application)
also include your wife's Indian passport and marriage certificate.

Hi

Another silly question to ask. Since the baby can't sign, i need the thumb impression. Should I use her left thumb or right thumb ? The question looks chilly but i dont know the answer.

perhaps this will help - taken from the passport section but should be applicable to other applications.

Application form completely filled in and signed by the applicant. Child should sign/write his/her name at the relevant place of signature of applicant in the application form. If the child cannot write his/her name, Thumb impression (left for male and right for female) should be put at the relevant place of signature of applicant in the application form. The declaration in the form must be signed by both parents on page 2, which should match with signatures on their Passports.

I was visited Birmingham to submit my documents for my kid, I was asked my wife's original passport. However i have not had her passport with me though I had the copy of her passport self attested. My application has not been accepted and they sent me back as they want to see the original passport of her. :(

Though the CGI and HCI website clearly ask applicant's to carry all originals along with self attested photocopies, but all originals are not always routinely verified.
Bit of bad luck for you :(
