Denying myself to go to america

Post by simonb » Sun Sep 23, 2007 12:41 am

Please can someone help. I have spent 3 years of my life denying my ability to visit America.
It has been on my mind every single day since October 2004 and I really need help.

I visited Denver Colorado in 2004 for 2½ months during the summer to visit friends of the family.
At the time I was unemployed and visited via the Visa Waiver Program open to UK citizens. I left on my return date and came home. I went to the US Embassy in London in October 2004 and I applied for a (Holiday) tourist visa to go back that Christmas.
I was refused the visa under section 214b (Not enough ties to the UK to warrant a visa)
It has been a few years, and since then and I have been in full time work for 2½ years and now at my current full time job as a head buyer for a software company.
I wish to visit America again, but am quite concerned about what way I should approach it.

I am highly concerned of doing this considering the fact I was refused a visa.
I need some advise of what I should do. I am very worried that if I do attempt to re visit America, I may be turned away at the immigration due to the fact I was refused a holiday visa in 2004.
I would want to go for a maximum of 6-10 days, and would be paying for the return ticket and accommodation myself.

I would love to be able to say to friends that I could go with them on week long trips to Vegas, or New York City, and to know I can visit our friends again in Denver, but I am quite concerned about getting there and being turned away.
I’m aware the most secure way would be to re - apply for another visa,
But I don’t need a 10 year visa. I just want to be able to visit America for a week a year and have holidays with friends.

Please can some one advise me on what the best course of action to take would be to ensure safe transit and to comply with all laws and regulations.

What made you think you needed a visa for the US? Visitor visas are very rarely given to those who are eligible for the VWP. The next time you go you will have to tick "yes" to the question asking whether you have been denied a visa, and fill in the appropriate details. Afterwards you can expect to be taken to secondary inspection and be questioned about your ties to the UK. However, as long as you have a return ticket and a letter from your employer and other documents like bank account, bills, rental agreement, etc (don't show unless asked) you should be ok. Secondary inspection might take a while, so be careful when booking your ticket if you have a connecting flight.
