Hi there,
I have recently been naturalised. I have had a problem with my DoB for some years now. When I came to the UK (first on Work Permit and then two Tier 2 visas), I used my actual DoB for my driver's licence and NI number. However, during my second Tier 2 visa, the Home Office used 01 January 19XX as my DoB. The reason for this is that my passport states only the year of birth (not the full DoB). I repeatedly tried to change this with the Home Office and offered to send a translated birth certificate but they wouldn't accept this.
I ended with my one of my Tier 2 visas as 01/01/19XX and then my ILR was issued based on a 01/01/19XX; the naturalisation certificate was also issued with 01/01/19XX. I thought that I would apply for the UK passport and then change my DoB with HMRC and the DVLA to 01/01/19XX. I spoke to them about this when I first got my naturalisation certificate and they said they can do this.
I have applied for my first UK passport and it is still undergoing security checks -- the application was received on 06/02/2015. My wife applied almost 3 weeks after me and she is going to her interview on Monday 09/03/2015. Looking at the BC Passport timelines, it seems that mine is really delayed.
My query is the following:
1. Is the HMPO checking the HMRC and DVLA records?
2. If they are doing so, then would the discrepancy in my DoB be holding up my passport application?
3. Should I speak with the HMPO and explain to them that they might find a discrepancy about this? That said, the NI number is in the naturalisation and ILR applications and the Home Office knows about this problem; is the HMPO part of the Home Office or are they separate entities?
I am a bit anxious that it is taking this long and everyone on the timeline forum is getting a turnaround of 2-3 weeks.
Help is very appreciated.
