Congratulations.

Child benefit is Â£18.10 per week for the first child. You can get the forms at the job centre, or on-line. It's paid into the claimer's bank account.

I think the HO has now got a good grasp of the processing. It is now faster to post than to go there in person and cheaper too!!

By the way, I need help on registering my child as a British Citizen and local Post office don't seem to have the form or any guidance... Please help if you know how to go about it.

...and by the way...do I need to inform the employer and give them a copy....they haven't got a clue I have got the ILR just yet!!!

can u plz let us know what documents did u send to HO. What was ur status and how many absenses u had. did u do it urself or u had a representation. Iam planning to apply by the end of this month.

Basically it all depends on your circumstances:

As a rule....Life in the UK test, employers letter, proof of address, all original copy of work permit , 3 month payslip and bank statement. My absences were normal...haven't travel outside the UK for more than 2month at any time...and I have carefully been counting the days!!. I did not use any service...DIY application... Sincerely, with this forum I see very few reasons to use a solicitor.

As well as claiming Child Benefit, also claim Tax Credits ..... unless the family income is noticeably above Â£50000 per year.
