UK spouse's passport or just a copy of it?

Hiya, just had one quick question. It says on the ukvisa website that you need only send a copy of the Uk spouse's passport but it says on the embassy website that you need to send the passport itself? Anyone know which it is?

You will need acertified copy of the spouse's British passport. By no means should the passport be submitted if the spouse is not along with you at the time of submission, as you are not allowed to travel between countries with someone else's passport.

mym, I do not think that it is due to any domestic regulations. But I think there is an International passport Act or something like that that doesn't allow it as I cannot retrace where I had read it earlier. A look at the British passport doesn't show it, but can be seen in other passports like the Indian ones that clearly states that it cannot be send by post out of any country.

JAJ, Docterror never said they aint different countries he was just giving an example of indian passport law and also said he was could not retrace the International passport Act.

I don't think I'd trust my passport in the Russian Postal system, they are a set of thieving bastards there.

Yes, I have direct experience, anything of any value disappears! DVD's, book no problem, try and slip a few dollars in a book and it's gone! I sent a valueless silver ring and that went.

Even DHL is not to be trusted, since DHL 'hand over' to the local russian operative in Russia and ur in the same boat.

Don't get me wrong, I love Russia and Russian's - I live with one, but they do have this 'petty theft is ok' mentality especially if it's a perk of the job!

I'm sending the passport with him, not by post.

Mind you, I sent a silver ring to Siberia in the normal post and it arrived ok.
