Hi. My work mate was born and breaded in the UK about 25 years ago. His mum was Portugese and dad British but as they were not married his dad did't pass his citizenship to him. He made so enqueries with passport office and they told him he is not British so can't apply for British passport. He also made some enqueries with Portugese authorities and according to them he is not Portugese citizen. If that's the case is it possible that he is stateless?whats the best way around this?

I do not see how he is not a Portuguese citizen by birth (as long as his Portuguese mum was born in Portugal..)
Even if the parents didn't register his birth at a Portuguese consulate, his citizenship should become active once he expresses the wish to be a Portuguese citizen, e.g. by applying for a Portuguese birth certificate, the citizen card and then the passport.

Ask him to contact the Consulate again; if this still doesn't work he could register as a British Citizen using form T (if he was born in the UK on or after 1/1/1983 and can prove that he spent the first 10 years of his life here). As far as I am aware, this is an entitlement and as long as he has the required documents this should be quite straightforward (but obviously costs quite a significant amount of money...)

Thanks for your help. He was in touch with Portugeese embassy and they send him letter in Portugese language telling him that if he can't understand it that means he have no claim to Portugese passport.

Absolutely shocking that consulates send out this sort of wrong information...Knowledge of Portuguese language is only relevant for people seeking to naturalise as Portuguese citizens, not for people who have a claim to citizenship through their parents...
Anyways, probably best not to bother with them then, tell him to go for BC as suggested, good luck!
