Correcting the Naturalisation Certificate

Post by ckramer » Sat Apr 18, 2015 11:01 am

Hi all,

My naturalisation certificate was issued with a default date of birth (01 January) since my foreign passport only states the year of birth. I have obtained a birth certificate which states my full date of birth, translated it, certified the translation and sent it along with a letter for correction. I also included my driving licence which includes my actual date of birth. Funny enough, the Home Office insisted on a default date of birth for me since 2011 because only the year of birth is on my passport.

Anyone recently corrected their naturalisation certificate? What are the timelines and how can I check on the progress? I sent my documents two weeks ago and have not heard anything from the Home Office. What is the best number to call them on? I found a number online but the guy refused to even take my name and check for me and insisted that it can take up to 8 weeks which is the generic response.

What would be your suggestions? What is the best number to call?

Thanks in advance.

What I have read here, it can take up to ten weeks for replacement to arrive, I don't know any telephone number but if you are in a hurry you can find address here and write to them, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hi there,

Thanks fwd079 for your reply. I have called them but they won't event say if they are working on it or not. Next week will be week 4 for me.

If anyone had a recent experience with this, please share.

Thanks.

I did a search two months ago, and very little on timelines, this post suggests six weeks and this post suggests seven weeks. Its safe to assume 6-8 weeks in my view.

Perhaps you can note your dates as well, and help others with timeline.

Hi all,

Thanks for your support. Just for the benefit of other forum members, I post below is the timeline for correcting my certificate of naturalisation:

1. 07 April 2015: Posted Certificate to Liverpool citizenship office. I attached my driving licence and translated/certified birth certificate.

2. 08 April 2015: post received (checked with Royal Mail).

3. 19 May 2015: received email from citizenship directorate advising that my amended certificate was mailed to me on 18 May 2015. I emailed them on 18 May 2015 to inquire.

4. 23 May 2015: received amended certificate in the mail. The certificate was corrected on 14 May 2015.

Cheers to all; now to passport application.
