Got HSMP approval today!! Big thanks to this forum! Tips!

Post by johnsyk » Fri Oct 05, 2007 2:31 pm

Dear all,

I called up HO today and got to know the good news! I got HSMP approval. I have spent the last 3 weeks reading up everything on this forum and I can tell all newbies..this forum IS THE BEST place to get all the info you need to get a succesful HSMP approval.

These are my timelines.

Application sent thru UPS courier from Bangalore - Sept 24th.
Application received at HO ( tracked thru UPS website) - Sept 26th
Ref number received thru mail - Sept 27th
Approval - October 4th
Called up HO today and they said...Approved. Documents are on their way!

Here are some of the tips you need to follow:-

1 - Best to use a courier if you can afford since U can track when your courier has reached. Also more safer than oridinary post. This is my personal opinion. Make sure u dont give PO box address since courier needs to be sent to the specific address mentioned.

2 - Read the HSMP guideline again and again. Quite often I have noticed that many people ask silly doubts on here which are actually given pretty straightforward on the HSMP guidelines.

3 - Do not give too much information. Quite often people get over cautious and give more documents than required which I feel serves no purpose. More documents sometimes confuse the caseworker and if there is a discrepancy in the documents..might even cause more harm that good!

Documents I provided are:-

Education - 35 points - I have a masters from a UK university. I DID NOT give marks card. Did not give any letter...I ONLY gave the Masters degree certificate. Since Its a UK certificate, I knew I dont have to give any additional documents..afterall its their own countries certificate!!

Earnings - 45 Points - I gave all 4 documents. ITR did not cover entire period hence as exceptional consideration, I gave bank statements and salary slips all signed and sealed. The amounts in both these documents matched. Also I gave a letter from company.

Age: 5 points - I ONLY gave a drivers license..and that too just the card.

Previous experience - I did not claim since my UK masters degree is older than 5 years. So i dint claim points there.

English Language: Even though I could have got a letter from university that my degree is in english, I decided to take up IELTS just to be 100% safe. I got a 8.5 in IELTS.

I sent covering letters for previous earnings..and a general covering letter. All the formats were taken from this forum. Of course I modified it highly to suit my specific case.

It was a straight application. I was hopeful that since I only gave 7 powerful pieces of document, I wasnt confusing the case worker and my two covering letters would clearly state my case.

I got my approval today. Hurrah! My research on EC begins!

Well, I am applying for EC only in January since I dont intend to move to the UK without a Job. I am in touch with a few people there who are showing interest. So my plan is to get a job and go there. I know its not easy to get a job and then move there for most people but in my line of work ( NON - IT)..most jobs are networked. So keeping fingers crossed. I got two favourable responses from two companies already. Also my fiancee is british born indian so i have given her home address and mobile number as contact details.

No..my CTC ( cost to company) was higher in the letter the company gave. But i mentioned in the covering letter that it is higher coz the company mentioned it as CTC and not gross salary. CTC also includes food coupons and my companies contribution to provident fund. I was initially thinking of not giving this company letter. But i gave it anyway saying CTC is higher than gross shown in pay slips. Anyway..it all worked for me.
