Bank balance to sponsor family visit visa

Post by pokalasatish » Mon May 11, 2015 11:36 am

Hi all,

I got my British passport a couple of months ago and I want my mom to come and visit me in the UK for 2 months. I am employed full time, but due to various reasons, my account balance is negative. My mom has money in her savings account and she will be paying for her tickets and other living expenses. She will be living with me in my flat so she does not have any accommodation expenses.

My question is, do I need to have balance in my account to sponsor my mom's visit visa and if yes, how much? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

How much money/savings does your mum have? Is she currently employed? Business or is her income regular?

If she is financially stable I am guessing you don't need to provide much apart from your invitation letter, visa status and proof of accommodation inviting her and explaining on your statement that she will be responsible for her maintenance apart from the accommodation. I wouldn't show the bank statement as it might affect the decision of the ECO.

It's just a guess but I think someone here is more knowledgeable though.

Thank you for the reply edwinuk. My mom is a housewife and does not have regular monthly income. She depends on my dad for her expenses. She does however, have money coming into her account from my sister usually every 2-3 months and she currently has about £1800 in her account. My mom has been here twice before on a family visit visa and on both occasions she went back in 4 months. But during that time I was on ILR and had positive balance and I paid for her travel and living costs.

-Does your mum and dad have a join bank account? If so, include it on your supporting documents. If not joint account, maybe you can still include it but with an affidavit or statement from your Dad explaining what you just said.

-Include your mum's statement and an affidavit or statement or anything that will prove that your mum gets support from your sister.

-How long has she had the £1,800? If it is only deposited within the last six months you need to explain how it got there.

Thanks again edwinuk. She has a joint account with my dad, so if there is enough money in that account to cover her journey, is that all she needs to submit. Do I still need to show my bank account? Do you think that will help/hinder the application? Thanks.

I think as long as the ECO can be satisfied that she can maintain herself ok whilst in the UK and also a stable income when she comes back I think she will be ok.

If I am in your situation, I'd go the route where she visits you and she pays for everything apart from the accommodation letter. So if she is financially capable / stable, then I do not see any reason why you need to provide your negative bank account. Remember you are not sponsoring/funding her trip.

If you go with the "sponsoring her trip" route, ECO might question your ability to maintain her. Whilst if she is paying for her trip and have the funds, all the ECO need is a proof that she will return.

Also, try and get a travel insurance covering any unforeseen medical situations for the visit and attach a copy of the same with the application

Hi "pokalasatish"
I have the same situation as yours. My husband is in UK. I'm planning to apply family visiting visa - short term stay.My husband can provide me accommodation but his account balance is zero. I have approximately 2,500 pounds in my account.

I would like to know whether you succeeded in visiting visa case.

Thank you all.
