Passport for baby

Post by Cable97 » Mon Jun 22, 2015 9:06 pm

Hi there,

I am greek and married to an Aussie. We live in the uk and just had a baby (6months old). We would like to get a British passport for the baby, what is the process? He was born in the uk and has an Aussie passport, but this does not give him legal status here.

We have been here for just under 5 years, and I probably have 5 p60s.

Alternatively, is it easier to add get him an EEA certificate?

It is quite urgent as we need to travel and this could be an issue.

Thanks.

Apply for a Greek passport then child has same rights as you or any other EU citizen.

Unless child was born AFTER you obtained permanent residence or after your Australian partner obtained ILR via another UK immigration route, the child is not automatically British.

You can always shoot for registration of your child as a UK citizen later on, once you are settled;

Ref: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... e_2015.pdf
See Children born in the UK – Section 1(3) and 1(3A) application

Even if you as parents never actually 'settle' in UK s/he will still have an option to register under section 1(4) of BNA (after 10 years living in UK).
