New Rules for UK PIO Card Holder confusion...

Post by sharpharp » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:15 pm

Can't find any real proper advice and guidelines on the Discontinued PIO Service for UK Citizens...

My father has a PIO which was issued two years ago. Under the new rules which say the PIO Scheme was Discontined in Januart 2015, existing PIO can convert their existing PIO to a OCI before September 2015...

Can anyone advise how to convert the PIO to a OCI if you are a UK Citizen and exactly what the GUIDELINES are for UK Citizens.

There is lots of info for US, France PIO Citizens, but what is the score for UK Citizens. Everywhere you read or people you ask all have different suggestions.

Why the hell can't the UK Indian High Comission provide this guidance on their website? Instead the lazy people there just post a pathetic link to the Gazette statement from India.

Can anyone tell me what is actually needed, i.e. any fees/photos and where to send the conversion in you live in the UK?

Thank you

I recently converted my son's pio to oci. I don't think it's mandatory to do the conversion and I believe the existing PIO will automatically get lifetime validity, but I did the conversion to be on the safe side. The process is similar to a fresh oci application, here is the link no to the online application form.

I didn't have to pay any fess other than the vfs service charge which was less than 10 quid.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I was told by the London HCI to apply using http://in.vfsglobal.co.uk/OCI.html

I would have thought it was the same link that you posted? What's the difference?
