Is the SSN still applicable?

Post by miller667 » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:58 am

Hi -

While I was in the USA in 2002 on an H1B visa, I applied for and received a Social Security number. I stayed in the US for 4 months and moved on to India. Is the SSN still valid and can I use it for any specific requirement in the United States?
Thanks in advance.

.

Once you are issued a SSN (Social Security Number for everyone else), it is your identity with the U.S. government for life. It can only be changed under circumstances of great need.

All your U.S. tax records are tied to it, as well as other government files. Don't let anyone else use it, and make sure that when it is required for you to use yours that you don't make a mistake and write an incorrect number.

Topic moved from General to U.S.

Your best bet is to contact the social security office. But you can also get details from http://www.****.us/ and solve your problem.
